Who We Are:
Investor-owned
water utilities serve more than six million Californians, and what distinguishes
these utilities from their government-owned counterparts is their need
to meet the expectations of both shareholders and customers. Like any
successful business, CWA companies must operate efficiently and effectively,
reinvest in their operations, provide top-notch customer service, and deliver
a reasonable return to shareholders.
Investor-owned utilities
are closely regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC),
which monitors operations and service, sets water rates, and enforces water
quality standards set by state and federal regulators. In addition to providing
high-caliber water services, our members add value to their communities
through income and property taxes, charitable giving, and a commitment
to public education.
